Domaine d'Ouréa

Vacquéyras

Certified Organic

Domaine d’Ouréa was founded in 2009 and is located on the renowned communes of Vacqueyras and Gigondas, in the southern part of the Côtes du Rhône. Adrien Roustan, passionate about vines and nature, naturally took over part of his grandfather Raymond Bertrand’s estate after his studies and a couple eye opening internships at Domaine Romanée Conti and Turley Cellars. He has since acquired new plots in Vacqueyras and Gigondas. He converted the vineyard to organic farming and named it “Domaine D’Ouréa” in 2010 as a tribute to his highest parcel of Gigondas located at 1700 feet on the South slopes of the splendid Dentelles de Montmirail. The estate has been certified organic since 2012.

The vineyard covers an area of 20 hectares of vines spread over 18 parcels and 4 distinct terroirs from which originate the Domaine’s 4 cuvées. With the help of Hissam Jait and seasonal workers, the estate now farms 20 hectares around the Hameau de Fontbonne in Vacqueyras.

In the cellar, Adrien works with his fruit in whole bunches as much as possible. The bunches undergo a light crush upon entering the tank and from there extraction is judicious. He likens the process more to an infusion than to extraction. Ageing takes place in concrete tank. The domaine in fact, does not work with any new wood at all. Adrien's approach allows the pure fruit aromatics and complex site expressions to take center stage rather than the heavily extracted style often found in a region where warm climate coupled with high scores favoring big styled wine marked by excessive oak and high alcohol levels. Thus in short time, the young winemaker has added his name among those to watch in the Southern Rhône.

True to the name and inspiration, the wines are from high elevation sites and all have great lift, energy, and grace.
