Farming Organic
Rueben Lange honed his farming and winemaking skills over the past decade in places as diverse yet equally inspiring as Forlorn Hope in the Sierra Foothills, Maison Maenad in the Jura, and Division and Idiots Grace in Oregon. He founded Amiti in 2022 with the goal of employing the basic tenets of good land stewardship – both in his farming and the vineyards he chooses to purchase from – by caring for all those who work for him (the entire harvest & winemaking team is paid a competitive living wage) and crafting wines that are meant to celebrate those he holds dear. Lange farms his vineyards himself without using any chemical inputs, and while he loves and celebrates vinifera, in pursuit of a more sustainable future for Oregon winemaking, he believes the Oregon Pinot narrative to be false, and focuses instead on hybrid and a-typical varieties. All of his wines are fermented with indigenous yeast and nominal sulfur is added at the final assemblage with respect to ph. Rueben's wines are deeply expressive and energetic. Amiti is a yiddish word Lange interprets as the qualities an individual uses to do good in the world. (read more)
